I was shocked when I went to change the oil and filter again on a 2004 BMW X3 2.5i and saw that the PS-7007 filter had cracked in half. I had bought it from Wal-Mart and had got a new one but returned it after seeing this epic failure.
I don't know what damage may have been done when any debris went past and into the engine. I have done the oil changes on this car for a friend. I changed brands and got a Purolator Boss from an auto parts store. I used full synthetic 5w-30 oil.
I just tried posting this on Wal-Mart's website but so far it says that an error has occurred and to try again later. I hope K & N and / or Wal-Mart will cover any future engine damage.
