BTW - went back to the site and it still says that the item is available for pick up today.

Ordered a simple foam mattress pad - said it was in my local store so I ordered it for pickup and went to get it. It apparently takes them a full day to pick the item off the shelf and by the time they did that, the item was gone.

Yes - they sent an email that it was not going to be available but that was almost 24 hours after I had placed the order online. When I called the customer service, they told me (twice) that I should order things in the morning because the stores only communicate to the web application once a day (at midnight) so they can't guarantee what they say is available is really available.' So don't bother expecting Walmart to compete with Amazon.

By the time they get the real time capability to see what is in the store and actually set it aside for your pickup, Amazon will have put them out of business. They are light years behind a real online service.

Think about something, just for a minute. Think of the people Walmart hires for their stores.

You don't think they changed the mold for the people they have in their warehouses, do you? You're right they won't be any real competition to Amazon any time soon, until they get aggressive and treat people like robots like Amazon does.

The issue is not the people - they don't have anything close to the system integration necessary to sell from a real time inventory
